The Team

Our Founders

John Quayle

John is a Pittsburgh-based entrepreneur, advisor, startup community leader, and the operations behind StartNow Pittsburgh. During the day, he specializes turning ideas into reality - often acting as the best #2 (COO style) to our region’s startups & small businesses. When he isn’t working, you’ll find him chasing his national and international traveling ambitions or trying to attend as many NHL games as he can across North America.

Joe Esposito

Joe is a Pittsburgh-based Full-stack developer, artist, and entrepreneur. He is coffee-powered and loves to dive into the inner workings of startups and other inspiring things.

Our Writers

David Neimanis

David is a cultural producer and writer from Buffalo, NY. After spending years on the road as a traveling musician, David migrated to Pittsburgh, PA where he now writes for StartNow PGH, The Urbanist, and Beaux Arts. In addition to writing, David is a curator at PG&H, and works for 412 Food Rescue. You will likely find David around the city on a quest for the city’s freshest flavors or at your local cheese shop.

Amanda Reed

Amanda is a Pittsburgh-based journalist, but mostly makes dumb jokes on Twitter. Her work has appeared in Pittsburgh Magazine, Pittsburgh City Paper, the Riveter Magazine, Martha Stewart Weddings and the Pittsburgh Current. She really loves opossums.

Emma Diehl

Emma is a Pittsburgh-based technology and lifestyle writer, covering everything from machine learning in law enforcement to historic building preservation. Her byline has appeared on XOJane, NPR, Huffington Post, NEXTPittsburgh, and Very Local. When she's not chasing down Pittsburgh's latest startup news, she’s probably biking over to the newest brewery.

Scot MacTaggart

Scot has been a sales rep, a marketer, a manager, an executive, a consultant and a corporate advisor over the past 20 years. He is currently the creator & host of The Pitchwerks Podcast and the co-founder of KRNLS (growth strategy company for startups and small businesses). Over the past two years, Pitchwerks has released 120+ episodes, and built an audience of thousands of listeners around the world.

Brian Conway

Brian Conway is an independent reporter based in Pittsburgh specializing in enterprise reporting. His investigations into the city's lead in water crisis earned him First Prize for Environmental Reporting from the Keystone Chapter of the Society for Professional Journalists in their statewide Spotlight contest. Brian is also a member-owner of the Work Hard Pittsburgh digital media cooperative. (Twitter)
